Arrest in the delivery room
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss treatment options for V Fib if you are unable to obtain intravenous access.
Unable to Obtain IV Access:
1. C (circulation) of the secondary A-B-C-D survey includes obtaining intravenous access.
2. If difficulty is encountered obtaining intravenous access, shocks should not be excessively delayed while waiting to administer medications.
3. Three drugs can be administered via the endotracheal tube - Atropine, Lidocaine, Epinephrine (ALE).
4. Increase the dose 2 - 2.5 times for medications given via the ETT over the usual IV dose.
5. Vasopressin is not to be administered per ETT. Use epinephrine as the pressor.
6. Amiodarone is not to be administered per ETT. Use lidocaine as the antiarrhythmic agent.
